MISS Tourism Zimbabwe finalists survived a horror Zupco bus crush Wednesday evening during a tour of the Vumba.

Nine models and their chaperon are currently admitted at Murambi Gardens Clinic with minor injuries.

Manicaland provincial police spokesperson Inspector Tavhiringwa Kakohwa said the accident occurred at the 13km-peg on the Mutare-Vumba road.

The pageant’s organisers said the models were on their way to Eden Lodge where they had been booked for the night.

they had been on a tour of the Eastern Highlands ahead of the pageant finals slated for December 14 at Montclair Hotel and Casino, Nyanga.

The bus developed a mechanical fault, veered off the road and landed on the left side and was only saved by the Vumba’s vegetation from crushing down a steep gorge.

“We would like to thank the driver for his heroic efforts to control the bus. He really saved the day. He is also admitted at Murambi Gardens Clinic along with a chaperon,” the organisers said in a statement.

The finalists who are admitted are Maria Makelve and Michelle Mupasi, Midlands Province, Rutendo Tilda Mafuratidze Manicaland, Rutendo Amanda Taruvinga and Grace Karimupfumbi Masvingo, Monalisa Ellen Tafirenyika Matebeleland North, Maureen Gondwe Mashonaland Central, Wendy Maturi Mashonaland Central, Pauline Marere Mashonaland West.

“The girls are naturally still in shock, but stable and recovering.We are just waiting for the doctors to give their assessment of their conditions so we won’t comment further on that.”

The 10 other Finalists are booked in a local hotel.
